Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese set two WNBA rebounding records during the team's 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Monday.
Reese recorded 26 rebounds in the game, setting a new WNBA single-game record. This performance surpassed Chamique Holdsclaw's previous record of 24 rebounds, set on May 23, 2003, while playing for Washington. Reese also secured eight offensive rebounds during the game. She acknowledged her shooting struggles, stating, "Last time I was here, I didn’t miss any shots. Tonight I couldn’t hit (anything) so I knew I was going be able to get them on the rebounding side." Reese added 11 points on 4-of-14 shooting from the field.
In addition to the single-game mark, Reese also established a new WNBA record for the most total rebounds in a single season with 458. This total breaks A’Ja Wilson’s record of 451, which was set in 2024. Reese achieved her 27th double-double of the season in the game, with 11 points, 26 rebounds, and three assists in 38 minutes.
Dream guard Allisha Gray expressed admiration for Reese's performance, calling it "a talent" and stating, "I'm just in awe watching her rebound."
Reese, a three-time WNBA All-Star, previously set a WNBA rookie record with 13.1 rebounds per game and the league record for 15 consecutive double-doubles in 2024. She has led the league in rebounding in each of her first two seasons and is currently leading again this season with an average of 12.0 rebounds per game.
