Angel Reese's Dominant Performance Evens WNBA Finals Series

Angel Reese delivered a standout performance, scoring 30 points and pulling down 16 rebounds to guide the Atlanta Dream to a 79-65 win over the Golden State Valkyries in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals on Monday night. The victory evened the best-of-seven series at one game apiece and marked the Dream's first Finals game victory in franchise history.

Reese's 30-point, 16-rebound effort made her the youngest player to achieve such a stat line in a WNBA postseason game. She also contributed 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal. This performance contrasted sharply with Game 1, where she scored 11 points in the first quarter but failed to make another field goal for the remainder of the game.

The Atlanta Dream had previously been swept in their three prior NBA Finals appearances in 2010, 2011, and 2013, entering Game 2 with an 0-10 record in championship series contests. Reese's dominant outing helped put an end to that streak.

Prior to the game, both the Dream and the Valkyries remained off the court during the playing of the national anthem. The WNBA's rulebook mandates that players, coaches, and trainers stand and line up for the anthem. The league has not provided comment regarding the teams' absence from the court during the ceremony.

Reese scored 15 points in the first half on 6-of-9 shooting, exceeding her total output from Game 1. Despite a brief display of frustration early in the third quarter after not receiving the ball, she quickly recovered, making a defensive play and later completing a three-point play. Cameras captured Reese exclaiming, "Give me the f-----g ball!" after the and-1 basket.

She added nine points in the third quarter, a total that matched the entire scoring output of the Golden State Valkyries for that period. Despite entering the second half with three fouls, Reese avoided further infractions throughout the third quarter, while the Valkyries relied heavily on jump shots and did not attempt any free throws. Both teams made four field goals in the third quarter, with one three-pointer each.

The Dream established a 60-46 lead by the end of the third quarter, extending their advantage to 21 points with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Reese sealed the victory with six points in the fourth quarter, including a 24-foot three-pointer that put Atlanta ahead 74-55 with 4:15 left on the clock.

The WNBA Finals will now shift to Atlanta's State Farm Arena for Game 3, scheduled for Wednesday.
