Atlanta Dream player Angel Reese celebrated a $400 victory stemming from a bet with Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers after their game on Wednesday. Reese posted on social media platform X, "DUBS IN THE MF CHAT," following the Dream's narrow 82-81 win over the Wings.
Reese added the Spanish word "cuatrocientos," meaning "four hundred," to her post, referencing a bet made during WNBA All-Star weekend in Chicago. The wager stipulated that the losing player would owe the other $400 if their respective teams lost Wednesday's game. Reese confirmed the bet in a postgame press conference, stating, "Yeah I’ll be requesting my Apple Pay after this."
A video captured during All-Star weekend practice showed Reese and Bueckers discussing the wager. In the clip, Reese, holding a wad of cash, told Bueckers, "I know y’all gonna lose … but if y’all win, you get the $400." She then added, "… You owe me $400 [if the Dream beat the Wings]." Bueckers responded, "I’ll stand on it," with a laugh when asked about the bet before Wednesday's game.
The WNBA collective bargaining agreement states that players are prohibited from wagering on games. The two players, who are friends off the court, were seen exchanging words during the game after Bueckers was called for a foul while guarding Reese. Despite the on-court exchange, Reese complimented Bueckers' performance postgame, calling her a "great" player with an "so good" mid-range shot.
Reese finished the game with 22 points and 12 rebounds. The Dream are set to host the Storm in Atlanta on Friday, while the Wings are scheduled to play the Mystics in Washington.
