Former Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth has maintained contact with three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, expressing a desire to see him return to the NFL.
Whitworth, who played until age 40 and retired after Super Bowl LVI, stated in a recent interview with Fox News Digital that he sends Donald occasional texts to gauge his interest in a comeback. "I would love to see it. It'd be super exciting," Whitworth said. "He's going to do what's best for him. I hope he gets some workouts in, and man, I'm hoping he gets the itch because there would be nothing more fun than watching that dude."
The speculation about Donald's return has intensified following the Rams' acquisition of reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. The move has led to rumors that Donald, who retired in March 2023, might consider rejoining the team. Whitworth clarified that he and Donald are not a package deal, but he remains optimistic about the possibility of Donald playing again.
"He is one of the most special humans and players I've ever been around. At the same time, I don't want him to get out there and get hurt, but if he's interested in doing it, I hope he does it," Whitworth added. "I would love to see it. That's for sure."
Whitworth also shared his excitement about Garrett joining the Rams, noting that Garrett has been using the same gym where many Rams players train. "I've already kind of caught up with him... I'm excited for him," Whitworth said. "I think he'll realize this is a pretty special place to play. It's a very unique locker room and culture. I consider it a one-of-one type place... I think you'll see an even more invigorated, excited, amped-up version of Myles Garrett when he gets in here and realizes how special this place is and the juice it's going to give him to be a part of something bigger than himself where he's on a winner, and he's in a place that's built to win."
Beyond his thoughts on the Rams' roster, Whitworth also discussed his anticipation for the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament, where he is a participant. He described the event as a special week that athletes and celebrities look forward to all year, noting the unique nervous energy that mirrors competitive moments from their professional careers.
