Amy Hunt claimed her first major individual gold medal at the European Championships in Birmingham on Monday, clocking 11.00 seconds to win the women's 100m title. The 24-year-old Briton dethroned defending champion Dina Asher-Smith, who finished fifth in the final. Hunt narrowly edged out Poland's Eva Swoboda by two-hundredths of a second, with Belgium's Delphine Nkansa taking bronze.

"I was getting fed up of silver," said Hunt, who had previously finished second in the Commonwealth Games 100m final in Glasgow. "It is so special to do this at home."

Hunt, who was part of the British quartet that won 4x100m gold at the European Championships in Rome two years ago, is now the fastest woman on the continent. She also holds a World Championship silver medal over 200m from Tokyo last year. Hunt is scheduled to compete in four events in Birmingham this week.

The British team also secured a mixed 4x400m relay silver medal, with Ben Jefferies, Charlotte Henrich, Toby Harries and Yemi Mary John combining for a podium finish behind Norway, who set a new Championship record. Scott Lincoln finished fourth in the men's shot put.
