Amy Hunt has emerged as a dominant force in British athletics, clinching an unprecedented four gold medals at the European Athletics Championships. The victories mark a significant milestone in her burgeoning senior career, showcasing her ability to perform under pressure on major stages.
Hunt expressed elation and disbelief following her historic performance. "Four golds was the dream and perhaps dreams do come true," she stated. "It's so beyond the bounds of my dreams that I'm just euphoric. I can't believe it's happening. I think it will sink in later, maybe on the podium. I'm just so proud of myself and the way I've handled this week."
The sprinter has openly discussed her ambitious goal of replicating her European sprint sweep at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. She is already beginning to visualize the experience, even creating playlists for the event.
Despite her current success, Hunt is aware of the work ahead. This year, she ranks 14th globally in the 200m and 25th in the 100m. The existing British records set by Dina Asher-Smith in 2019, 21.88 seconds for the 200m and 10.83 for the 100m, remain unbroken.
Following her European triumph, Hunt's next major international competitions include the inaugural World Ultimate Championships in September and next year's World Championships in Beijing. Her success mirrors that of British teammate Asher-Smith, who also achieved a European treble in 2018 before reaching global prominence.
"Amy has already won world silver, but she was not a favourite then," noted an observer. "Now, it's a big change. She is a champion and she has to go and take on the best in the world. Is it going to be easy? No. But this will fill Amy with confidence. She will be on start lines trusting her ability is great, and I'm hoping that she will go from strength and strength."
