The Chiefs organization and coach Andy Reid expressed their condolences following the news of Bailey's passing.
Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Allen Bailey died Tuesday at the age of 37. His family informed TMZ that they believe his death was due to natural causes, though an official cause had not been released as of Wednesday afternoon.
Bailey was found deceased in his Florida home. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who coached Bailey during his tenure with the team, shared his condolences.
"Our hearts go out to his family," Reid said Wednesday. "Prayers are with them. Way too young, obviously. One of my favorite players. Great kid. Just sorry to see that happened to him."
The Chiefs selected Bailey in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He played for Kansas City from 2011 to 2018 before joining the Atlanta Falcons for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
In 133 regular-season games, Bailey recorded 248 tackles, 22 sacks, and four forced fumbles. He also played in six playoff games, contributing 10 tackles and two sacks.
"Allen Bailey was an excellent teammate, generous man, and kind soul," the Chiefs stated on social media. "We’re deeply saddened to hear of his passing, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."
Falcons also offered condolences, posting on social media: "Rest in peace, Allen Bailey. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends."
Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes recalled Bailey as a key figure in the locker room. "A great teammate — he’s one of those glue guys on the team," Mahomes said. "He makes plays. He’s not necessarily a superstar, but the guy that kind of makes everything go. We’re praying for his family."
Bailey played college football for the Miami Hurricanes, where he was a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection. He was a native of Sapelo Island, Georgia.
