Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been fined £8,000 for misconduct following an incident after the Premier League match against Nottingham Forest on August 29. The Brazilian was sanctioned for acting in an improper manner around the tunnel area after the final whistle of the 2-2 draw at Anfield.
Becker was reportedly unhappy with a penalty awarded to Nottingham Forest, which led to an equalizer by Morgan Gibbs-White. The penalty was given after Neco Williams was fouled in the area. Victor Munoz later scored to secure the draw for the visiting side.
Following the match, Becker was seen kicking the fourth official's board as he left the pitch. He has since accepted the charge from the Football Association.
The Key Match Incidents Panel later reviewed the penalty decision. The panel voted 3-2 that the penalty should not have been awarded. However, the panel unanimously supported the VAR's decision not to intervene, stating that the incident did not meet the threshold for a clear and obvious error. The panel noted that contact made by Becker was a consequence of his momentum in attempting to save the ball and was not reckless.
