Newly crowned US Open champion Alexander Zverev celebrated his maiden Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows with a late-night party in New York City on Sunday. Just hours after defeating American Ben Shelton in the final, the German tennis star headed to the exclusive Tao Downtown Nightclub.
Zverev was pictured with his inner circle and team, while nightclub staff held a banner proclaiming him the 'US OPEN CHAMPION A. ZVEREV'. The 29-year-old's victory came after a four-set win over home favorite Shelton, with the final score 6-3, 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-2.
This triumph marks Zverev's second Grand Slam title of 2026, adding to his French Open crown secured in June. It also represents redemption in New York for the player, who suffered a heartbreaking loss in the 2020 US Open final.
"We went 30 years without winning a Grand Slam title and now we've won two in the span of three months," Zverev said in his post-match interview. "I think God has seen how hard we worked, how much we suffered and 2026 is the outcome of all the years that came before."
Zverev secured the first set quickly and took a commanding lead in the second-set tiebreak. Although Shelton managed to win the third set, Zverev closed out the match in the fourth, earning a $5.5 million prize.
During the trophy ceremony, Zverev acknowledged Ben Shelton's girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, who had rushed to New York to support Shelton despite a prior commitment with her soccer team.
"It means everything [that she came]," Shelton said of Rodman's presence. "I knew it was going to be pretty close to impossible to get here, but even just making the effort and trying is insane. She kind of showed up as I was losing, which for her probably sucked.
"But we've made a lot of sacrifices for each other. We've traveled the world to try to support each other when we can. It means a lot."
Shelton added, "So many people have showed up for me, and that's what this is all about, being able to share these moments, share these two weeks with my best friends, my family, people I love. That's why I'm out here doing this. That's why I enjoy it so much. That's who I want to get over the line for."
