Alex Scott Out for England Due to Quad Injury
Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott will miss upcoming England matches after sustaining a quad injury during his first start for the national team.
Alex Scott has been forced to withdraw from the England squad due to a quad injury sustained during Saturday night's match against Croatia. The 23-year-old Bournemouth midfielder had made his debut for the Three Lions days prior, coming off the bench against Czechia, before earning his first start against Croatia.
Scott played 70 minutes in the match against Croatia, impressing in his performance, which was lauded by Thomas Tuchel, who described him as playing at the 'highest level.' However, the midfielder was reportedly playing through pre-existing pain.
There are concerns the injury could sideline Scott for up to two months, a significant blow for Bournemouth, who are currently winless in the Premier League and sit 17th in the table. The club is also navigating its first European campaign.
Scott's withdrawal follows that of Nico O'Reilly, who returned to Manchester City with a knock. Scott will now return to Bournemouth for medical assessments and will miss England's potential fixture against the Czechs at Wembley on Tuesday.
Bournemouth, currently managed by Marco Rose, have had a challenging start to their Premier League season. Despite being winless in league play, the team has secured victories in other competitions, including a 2-1 away win against Real Sociedad in the Europa League and a 4-0 victory over Lincoln in the Carabao Cup.
Scott's future at Bournemouth has been a subject of speculation, with Chelsea reportedly submitting multiple offers, reportedly up to £68 million, during the summer transfer window. Other clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Manchester City, also expressed interest.
Scott's current contract with Bournemouth extends until 2028, and he has not yet agreed to an extension. Bournemouth has indicated that they are not interested in negotiations for the player in January and will only consider offers once their Premier League status for the season is secured. If Bournemouth holds firm on their stance, Chelsea may need to pursue alternative midfield targets, such as Lamine Camara of Monaco.
