England footballer Alex Greenwood is engaged to her childhood sweetheart, Jack O'Connell. The Lioness star announced the happy news on Instagram on Wednesday, sharing photos of the proposal that took place during their holiday.

O'Connell proposed to Greenwood, 32, by the sea, having arranged a light-up 'Marry Me' sign. The couple, who have been dating since they met at sixth-form college in Merseyside, celebrated with a romantic meal that included live music and a fireworks display. Greenwood shared the announcement with the caption, "You. Me. Us. Always. A forever thing — 21.06.26."

Greenwood's England teammates were quick to offer congratulations in the comments section of her post. Among those who sent well wishes were Lucy Bronze, Beth Mead, and Jill Scott.

O'Connell, a former Sheffield United player, retired from football in 2023. Greenwood has previously spoken about the couple's shared passion for the sport, noting in a 2023 interview with The Guardian that they often spend time analyzing game footage together.

Greenwood is known for her fashion-conscious style within the squad. Teammate Jordan Nobbs has described her as someone "very big into her heels, her dresses and her eyelashes." In a 2013 interview with Liverpool Echo, Greenwood referred to herself as a "girly-girl" who enjoys shopping and beauty routines, emphasizing that these interests do not preclude her from playing football.

The engagement follows that of another Lioness player, Ella Toone, whose boyfriend Joe Bunney proposed in August 2025. Toone's proposal occurred shortly after England's victory in the 2025 Euros and also involved a romantic holiday setting, with a proposal arch and the presence of Bunney's son.
