Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter are planning a second, larger wedding celebration after facing online criticism for their timing of an intimate ceremony on July 12, the same day as the Wimbledon men's singles final.
The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony at a historic church in Leicestershire, near Boulter's hometown, with close family and friends in attendance. The wedding was described as "deliberately low key" and "personal," followed by a reception at a local pub.
Fans criticized de Minaur for scheduling his wedding on a day he could have been competing in what might have been the biggest match of his career. Some speculated that the timing indicated a lack of confidence in his ability to reach the Wimbledon final.
However, new reports suggest the date was only booked after both de Minaur and Boulter were eliminated from the Wimbledon championships. Tennis journalist Jessica Schiffer reported that the couple plans to hold a bigger wedding ceremony in the coming week.
De Minaur, currently ranked World No. 5, lost early in the prestigious tournament. Boulter, also a professional tennis player, was also eliminated prior to the final.
The couple, who have been together for six years, arrived at the church together. Boulter wore a long white gown, while de Minaur was dressed in a black suit, white shirt, and bow tie.
