Alex Bregman Suffers Facial Injuries After Foul Ball Strike

Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman underwent medical evaluation after sustaining facial injuries from a foul ball during the team's 9-1 victory against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.

Bregman was in the vicinity of the on-deck circle when he was struck by a ball deflected off the bat of his teammate, Michael Busch. The incident occurred as Busch was checking his swing, inadvertently sending the ball towards Bregman.

Footage showed Bregman stumbling backward and moving toward the Cubs' dugout while holding his face. He was met by trainers, who assessed his injury before he was led into the clubhouse for further evaluation. Subsequently, he was transported to a Cincinnati-area hospital for X-rays and a CT scan.

Following the game, Bregman posted an image on social media depicting his injuries. His left eye was visibly swollen and bruised, and his nose was packed with a specialized nasal plug. "Thanks for all the messages yall," Bregman wrote. "I'll be back."

Bregman did not travel with the team back to Chicago immediately due to the medical tests. Upon his return to Chicago, he shared another photo showing increased swelling in his face. The nasal packing had been removed, but his eye remained swollen and a patch of dried blood was visible on his cheek.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Cubs spokespeople for an update on Bregman's condition.

Bregman joined the Cubs as a free agent, signing a five-year, $175 million contract after the 2025 season. He previously played for Boston. His tenure with the Cubs has seen a significant improvement in his performance, with his OPS rising from .696 in the first half of the season to .978 over his last 59 games. This season, he has recorded 26 home runs, a .262 batting average, and a .352 on-base percentage.
