Ait-Nouri Sent Home from Algeria Duty After Sideline Altercation

Rayan Ait-Nouri, a defender for Manchester City, has been dismissed from the Algerian national team camp following an altercation with coaching staff. The incident occurred during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Zambia, which Algeria won 3-1.

Ait-Nouri reportedly became incensed when he was not brought into the game, particularly after Zambia scored. Social media footage captured the player gesticulating animatedly on the substitutes' bench. According to Algerian outlet Ennahar, Ait-Nouri was asked to warm up by manager Brahim Hemdani, only to be returned to the bench later. The report indicates that the player resisted attempts by general manager Moussa Saib and teammates to calm him down, leading to a significant disturbance.

Algeria's national team has confirmed Ait-Nouri's departure, stating, "The national coach, Mr Brahim Hemdani decided this Saturday to release the player Rayan Ait-Nouri from the current training camp of the national team. The Algerian international will return to his club, Manchester City."

The 25-year-old, who has earned 34 caps for Algeria and participated in the World Cup, has also expressed frustration with his playing time at Manchester City. He has yet to feature in the Premier League this season. Despite limited Premier League minutes, Ait-Nouri has made impactful contributions in cup competitions, providing two assists in the Carabao Cup against Norwich and another assist for Erling Haaland in the Champions League against Porto.

Ait-Nouri joined City in July of the previous year for £33.7 million and was a peripheral figure in his debut season. Manager Enzo Maresca has primarily favored Josko Gvardiol at left-back.

Manachester United reportedly made a late bid to sign Ait-Nouri on loan on deadline day, but the club was unwilling to agree to an obligation-to-buy clause, which City would have accepted.
