AFL Community Rallies for Former Player's Family After Sudden Death
A GoFundMe for the late Daniel 'Snowy' Stewart's family has raised just over 7% of its $1.5 million goal.
A fundraising effort established for the wife and young sons of former AFL player Daniel 'Snowy' Stewart, who died suddenly at age 37, has so far raised approximately $110,000 towards its $1.5 million goal.
The memorial fund aims to provide financial stability for Stewart's wife, Laura, and their two sons, Bernie and Lando, following his unexpected death on October 23. The donations received represent just over seven percent of the target amount.
Stewart was the primary income earner for his family, and a recent move of his superannuation meant there was no life insurance coverage in place. The funds are intended to help Laura maintain their home and cover future educational expenses for their children.
Claire Madden, who established The Daniel 'Snowy' Stewart Memorial Fund, described Stewart as a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend. She stated that the page was created to turn offers of support into tangible assistance for his family.
Stewart played 36 games and kicked 31 goals for Port Adelaide between 2010 and 2013. He joined the Power in 2009 as a rookie draft selection after playing for North Adelaide. Following his playing career, Stewart became a franchise operator for Body Fit Training (BFT), working alongside former teammate Matt Thomas.
BFT remembered Stewart as a beloved figure whose contributions extended beyond business. The company stated he was a devoted husband, father, and friend, and a valued member of the BFT family.
Former teammate Matt Thomas paid an emotional tribute, calling Stewart family and acknowledging that life would not be the same without him. Ex-teammate Kane Cornes also shared his heartbreak, remembering Stewart as a caring teammate with a constant smile.
Port Adelaide has announced it will honor Stewart by wearing black armbands during its first home game at Adelaide Oval in 2027. The club is also providing support to those affected by his passing.
Donations can be made through The Daniel 'Snowy' Stewart Memorial Fund.
