Adam Sykora Suffers Lower-Body Injury During Rangers Preseason Game
The young forward left the contest against the New Jersey Devils in the first period and did not return.
Adam Sykora, a forward for the New York Rangers, exited the team's preseason opener against the New Jersey Devils early due to a lower-body injury. The incident occurred midway through the first period after Sykora took a hit in the corner and appeared to favor his right leg.
Sykora, 22, was pursuing the puck when he was hit by Devils defenseman Mikael Diotte. He appeared to twist awkwardly into the boards and initially attempted to crawl toward the Rangers' bench before beginning to hobble. He was assisted by teammates Anton Blidh and Liam Greentree, along with a Rangers trainer, as he made his way off the ice and down the tunnel. The Rangers officially ruled him out of the game early in the second period.
Last season, Sykora played 11 games with the Rangers, contributing three goals and four points. He also appeared in 62 games for the American Hockey League's Hartford club, recording 12 goals and 29 points. His performance last season suggested he could be a call-up option for the Rangers during the current season. He had been skating on a line with Juuso Parssinen and Justin Dowling in Monday's preseason game.
