NFL insider Adam Schefter recently outlined a potential plan for Aaron Donald to return to the Los Angeles Rams after his retirement. Speaking on "The Pat McAfee Show" on July 13, Schefter suggested that Donald's recent workout at the Rams' facility was a test of his physical and mental readiness for a comeback.
Schefter proposed a scenario where Donald could play between 12 to 15 snaps per game, utilized in specific situations where his impact would be most significant. "I don’t know where he would be more appreciated, celebrated, wanted, respected, than in that [Los Angeles] locker room, with the Rams, with Myles Garrett, with a plan where they could play him 12-15 plays a game, use [him] in spots that they need him most," Schefter said.
He characterized this arrangement as "unbelievably attractive" for Donald, emphasizing that the decision rests solely on whether the defensive lineman wishes to undertake the effort. Schefter speculated that Donald might be enticed to return, especially with the Super Bowl scheduled to be played in Los Angeles this season.
Pat McAfee, however, expressed skepticism about Donald accepting such a limited role, suggesting that if Donald were to return, he would likely want to play at full capacity. In the 2023 season, Donald played approximately 76.46% of the Rams' defensive snaps, averaging around 50 snaps per game before his retirement.
Earlier on Monday, Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams fueled speculation by posting a photo with Donald on his Instagram story, captioned "My brudda 🤝🏾". Rams fans are expected to closely monitor any further hints regarding Donald's decision about a potential return.
