Adam Fantilli Delivers Big Hit to Former Teammate Kirill Marchenko in Return to Columbus
Blue Jackets forward acknowledges Marchenko's trade request prior to hard check in his first game back with the Maple Leafs.
Columbus Blue Jackets forward Adam Fantilli delivered a significant hit to former teammate Kirill Marchenko during Marchenko's first game back in Columbus after being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The collision occurred in the first period of the game, which the Maple Leafs ultimately won 6-2.
Prior to the matchup, Fantilli commented on Marchenko's trade request from the Blue Jackets. "He has his reasons, and I’m happy we got guys who want to be here," Fantilli told reporters. "It would’ve been a nightmare having a guy who didn’t want to be here all year. I’m happy we got that trade done when we did and got guys who want to be here."
During the game, with the score tied 1-1, Marchenko, who had scored the tying goal earlier, received the puck in the Columbus zone. While attempting to navigate through Blue Jackets players, Fantilli delivered a hard check. The arena cameras focused on Marchenko following the hit.
Marchenko and the Maple Leafs now hold a 5-4-2 record, placing them fifth in the Atlantic Division. The Blue Jackets are last in the Metropolitan Division but have games in hand over the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins.
