Aaron Judge Left Off Yankees' ALDS Roster Due to Calf Injury
The Yankees captain has not played since Sept. 16 while recovering from a calf injury, while Giancarlo Stanton remains on the roster.
New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge was not included on the roster for the American League Division Series against the Tampa Bay Rays as he continues to recover from a calf injury. Judge, a three-time AL MVP, has been sidelined since Sept. 16.
Despite Judge's absence, Giancarlo Stanton was named to the 26-man roster. Stanton has not played since April 24 due to calf muscle strains in both legs. He was active for the Wild Card Series sweep of the Boston Red Sox but did not appear in either game.
Judge's season has been hampered by injuries. He previously missed time from May 31 to Sept. 8 with a fractured rib. Following his return, he strained his right calf and was limited to just 66 games for the season. In those games, he posted a .241 batting average with 18 home runs, 41 RBIs, and an .871 OPS. In September, his performance dipped to a .174 average with one home run and three RBIs.
Left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers, who has been dealing with a left forearm flexor strain since Aug. 22, was added to the roster as the team's 11th pitcher. Utilityman Amed Rosario was dropped from the roster; he had two plate appearances in the Wild Card Series, resulting in a walk and a strikeout.
The Tampa Bay Rays' roster includes 12 pitchers, with right-hander Cole Susler and left-hander Steven Matz being added, while right-handers Brody Hopkins, Casey Legumina, and Manuel Rodriguez were removed.
