Aaron Donald has taken a significant step toward a potential return to the NFL by participating in a workout with the Los Angeles Rams.

The 35-year-old defensive tackle, who retired following the 2023 season, spent his entire career with the Rams organization, first in St. Louis and later in Los Angeles. His presence at Rams headquarters on Wednesday was confirmed by the NFL wire.

This development fuels speculation about a comeback for the decorated player, a Super Bowl LVI champion and a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Donald had previously indicated a willingness to consider returning, especially with the Super Bowl scheduled to be played in Los Angeles at the end of the 2026 season.

"I'm for sure flirting with the idea," Donald reportedly told NFL insider Jordan Schultz earlier this summer. "Helluva an opportunity with the Super Bowl in SoFi [Stadium] this year. If I can find the fire, it's a possibility."

Reports also suggest that Donald communicated to Pat McAfee that the Rams' trade for Myles Garrett "for sure got me thinking about a return." Los Angeles acquired Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in June, sending a package of draft picks and former defensive rookie of the year Jared Verse in exchange for the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. The addition of Garrett is seen as strengthening an already formidable defense.

Donald's potential return is generating considerable anticipation among fans and analysts as the team aims for another championship run.
