The Los Angeles Rams are not imposing a deadline on Aaron Donald for his decision regarding a potential return to the team from retirement. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport stated on NFL Game Day Kickoff that the team does not require an immediate answer from the three-time Defensive Player of the Year.
Rapoport indicated that the Rams are comfortable with their current defensive line personnel, regardless of Donald's choice. "The Rams are not waiting, let’s say, on another roster move if he decides to come back. They are set on the defensive line, they are more than good," Rapoport said. He added that Donald's return would be considered a "bonus" if it happens, and the team would "make it work" whenever he decides, whether that is in the coming weeks before the season or during the season.
Donald, who retired after the 2023 season, has been reportedly testing his body and has participated in an official workout with the Rams this summer. The speculation surrounding his potential comeback has persisted for over two months. While the Rams would welcome his return, there is no set timetable for his decision.
The Rams' defensive front is noted as being strong, featuring players like Kobie Turner, Poona Ford, and Braden Fiske on the defensive line. The linebacker group includes Myles Garrett, Byron Young, Omar Speights, and Nate Landman, who had a notable season in 2025. Garrett is expected to primarily focus on pass rushing.
Should Donald, an eight-time All-Pro, decide to return, he would not be looking to be a rotational player. His presence could significantly bolster the Rams' aspirations for a Super Bowl, as the team is considered among the favorites. Donald played under head coach Sean McVay for seven seasons before announcing his retirement.
