49ers Linebacker Dre Greenlaw Fined for Striking Falcons' Drake London

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw has been fined $12,537 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness following an incident during the team's loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The fine, reported Saturday by NFL insider Tom Pelissero, stems from an attempt by Greenlaw to punch the ball out of Falcons wide receiver Drake London's hands.

During the game, which the 49ers lost 29-20, Greenlaw's punch missed its intended target and instead struck London's helmet. Although no penalty was called on the play at the time, video review led to the league's disciplinary action.

London left the field to be evaluated for a concussion after the play but was later cleared and allowed to return to the game. While the notes suggest no malice was intended and the punch was aimed at the ball, the contact with London's helmet resulted in the fine.

This is not the first time this season Greenlaw has faced a fine from the league. Earlier in the season, he was fined $11,941 for taunting the Denver Broncos' bench, specifically mentioning his former head coach, Sean Payton.

Greenlaw and the 49ers will have time to regroup during their upcoming bye week before returning to play, with the linebacker presumably aiming to avoid further penalties.
