49ers Host Tryouts for Brenden Rice, Dorian Thompson-Robinson
The team worked out nine players Tuesday amid wide receiver injuries.
The San Francisco 49ers held tryouts for nine players on Tuesday, including Brenden Rice, son of NFL legend Jerry Rice, and former UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
The team's wide receiver corps is currently dealing with injuries to several players, including Ricky Pearsall, Christian Kirk, De’Zhaun Stirbling, Demarcus Robinson, and Mike Evans. This situation may have prompted the 49ers to explore additional options at the position.
Rice, a 24-year-old wide receiver, was drafted by the Chargers in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He has since had stints with the Patriots, Seahawks, Raiders, and Packers but has yet to play in an NFL game. He was a participant in an NFL rookie minicamp with the Chargers on May 10, 2024.
Thompson-Robinson, who played quarterback at UCLA, also participated in the workout. The 49ers also brought in defensive backs Cobie Bryant, Corey Ballentine, and Sam Webb for tryouts. Bryant spent the 2025 season with the Falcons, where 49ers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris was also on staff.
The team recently released defensive end Vincent Anthony Jr. from its practice squad on Tuesday, potentially creating a roster spot for one of the players who tried out.
