The San Francisco 49ers have signed head coach Kyle Shanahan to a multiyear contract extension, securing his leadership for the foreseeable future. The deal was finalized during the offseason, though its terms have not been publicly disclosed. This move ensures continuity for a franchise that has reached two Super Bowls and four NFC Championship games under Shanahan's tenure.

Shanahan, 46, was hired by the 49ers in February 2017 and is currently in his 10th season with the team. He holds an 83-67 regular-season record and has guided the team to double-digit wins in five seasons. His coaching has established the 49ers as a perennial contender in the NFL.

Despite his success, Shanahan has yet to secure a Super Bowl victory. He was notably involved in a serious car accident on July 14, which resulted in broken ribs and a fractured left hand. He was limited at the beginning of training camp, with assistant head coach Chris Foerster taking the lead on practices during his recovery.

Shanahan is nearing a franchise coaching milestone; he needs two more games to tie Bill Walsh for the most games coached in 49ers history. His extended contract comes on the heels of the 49ers' dominant 27-7 victory over the Super Bowl favorite Los Angeles Rams on Thursday.
