Victoria Hindle spent nearly a decade seeking medical answers for a constellation of symptoms including abdominal pain, low mood, and weight gain, which doctors initially dismissed.
Hindle, who at one point weighed 240 pounds, experienced constant pain for years. She eventually learned that her symptoms were linked to a condition that she believes affects thousands of women and can lead to type 2 diabetes.
She first suspected a specific condition about ten years ago when she developed a persistent, dull ache in her lower abdomen. Despite numerous attempts to connect her symptoms, medical professionals did not identify the underlying issue for years.
Dr. Vikram Talaulikar, an associate specialist in reproductive medicine, noted that women with certain conditions have been misinformed about their treatment, with some being told surgery is necessary or that it could lead to infertility. He stated that these women have been wrongly told they would need surgery to remove them, or that they would make them infertile.
Hindle believes that an earlier diagnosis could have helped her better manage her weight and potentially prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.
