Jane Ferguson began experiencing alopecia at age 75, which led to the development of bald patches that would shift unpredictably. The condition persisted for years, leaving her hair thin and sparse, prompting her to seek solutions.

Ferguson spent approximately five years and thousands of pounds on various treatments, including consultations with trichologists and dermatologists. She also tried numerous over-the-counter products such as shampoos and supplements from stores like Holland & Barrett, but found no relief. The fluctuating nature of her hair loss and the lack of effective treatments led her to resort to wearing hats and avoiding social gatherings.

Her hairdresser suggested a trial of a hair supplement developed by Suzanne Cooper, founder of the haircare brand Glowwa, who had experienced thinning hair herself due to stress. Ferguson agreed to a three-month trial of the supplement, taking two tablets daily. After two months without noticeable changes, she continued the regimen, and by the third month, she observed new hair growth on the previously bald areas. This regrowth was stronger and healthier than before, ultimately transforming her hair.

Ferguson has been using the Glowwa supplement daily for five and a half years, finding it to be a life-changing solution that allowed her to avoid buying a wig. She noted that the supplement costs £36.99 for 60 capsules. Beyond hair regrowth, she believes it has also improved her cognitive function.

Suzanne Cooper's Glowwa Hair Food is described as a nutritional formulation containing biotin, zinc, vitamin B12, and folate, which are nutrients involved in normal hair follicle function. It also includes vitamin C to support collagen production and aid iron absorption. The B vitamins contribute to energy metabolism, while L-lysine and rice protein provide amino acids for protein synthesis and keratin formation. Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is also included, though its specific effect on hair regrowth has limited evidence.

A trichologist, Sofia Baig, explains that these ingredients can support the nutritional environment for healthy hair, particularly if dietary intake is insufficient or a deficiency exists. However, she cautions that these supplements do not directly stimulate hair regrowth, as the causes of hair loss are often complex and can involve nutritional, hormonal, genetic, or medical factors. Baig recommends investigating the underlying cause of hair loss, which may involve blood tests for iron, vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate, and thyroid function, along with hormone testing if appropriate. She emphasizes that supplements are most effective when combined with a balanced, protein-rich diet, adequate calorie intake, good hydration, sufficient sleep, stress management, and good scalp health. Consistency is crucial, as noticeable results typically take three to six months to appear.
