Woman Endures Decades of Endometriosis Pain Before Life-Changing Surgery

Carys Thurlby, 43, endured agonizing pain for two decades due to endometriosis, a condition that began in her teenage years. The pain, often described as ripping sensations through her pelvis and legs, significantly impacted her life, even during her GCSE exams where she recalls 'chewing on paracetamol'.

After years of suffering, Thurlby underwent a radical surgery that not only alleviated her endometriosis-related pain but also resulted in a substantial weight loss of ten stone. She now weighs 9.5 stone, having more than halved her body weight since the procedure. Thurlby expressed that she never anticipated achieving such a level of health or becoming pain-free.

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, often on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the tissue lining the pelvis. This tissue can cause inflammation, scar tissue, and severe pain, particularly during menstruation.

Carys now weighs 9.5st, meaning she has more than halved her body weight since she had her hysterectomy, and says she never thought she would be so healthy – or pain-free

The specific details of Thurlby's surgery were not provided, but radical surgical options for endometriosis can include hysterectomy, removal of ovarian cysts, or excision of endometrial implants.
