A specialized hairdressing salon in Lowestoft, Suffolk, is gaining attention for its unique approach to serving neurodivergent clients. Blade Inclusive Salon has created an environment designed to accommodate individuals who may find traditional salon settings overwhelming due to sensory sensitivities, noise, or social anxiety.

The salon's focus on neurodivergence has led some families to travel significant distances for haircuts. Al Nicolau and his wife, Ramona, travel 530 miles from Aberdeen to Lowestoft four times a year for their seven-year-old son, Alex, who is autistic. Alex previously struggled with haircuts, experiencing distress and anxiety in noisy, busy environments. His parents found that the sensory room and specialized approach at Blade Inclusive Salon have made a profound difference, allowing Alex to feel calm and even willing to get his hair cut.

"It works so well and he's so calm. He actually wants to go there for his haircut, whereas up this way we haven't found anywhere quite as good," Al Nicolau stated. He noted that other salons could be a "fight and battle," but the sensory room at Blade has been instrumental.

Blade Inclusive Salon has reportedly created a space where clients can feel comfortable and understood, addressing the specific needs that can make standard hairdressing appointments challenging for those with neurodivergent conditions. The salon's success highlights a growing awareness and demand for inclusive services that cater to a wider range of needs within the community.
