Popular Dubai-Style Chocolates Recalled Over Salmonella Contamination

Two popular Dubai-style chocolate products have been urgently recalled by food safety chiefs over fears of salmonella contamination. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a 'do not eat' warning for Dubai Style Crunchy Knafeh and Pistachio Milk Chocolate and Alyan Dubai Style Chocolate Truffles.

These products are part of a trend of imported Middle Eastern-style chocolates that have gained popularity through social media. However, concerns are mounting that many of these products do not meet UK food safety standards.

World of Sweets, the UK's largest distributor of confectionery, has initiated an immediate recall affecting all best-before dates for the implicated products. The affected items include 120g packs of truffles and 100g bars of crunchy knafeh and pistachio milk chocolate, with batch codes 319456 and 318591.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause symptoms such as vomiting, severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and fever within hours of consumption. While most individuals recover without medical intervention, the infection can be fatal for vulnerable populations, including the elderly, pregnant women, and young children.

Customers who have purchased the affected products are advised not to consume them and to return them to the store of purchase for a full refund. For customers who bought directly from World of Sweets, the company requests they contact their customer service team via email at [email protected] with their order number. Proof of safe disposal of the chocolates may be requested, or the retailer can arrange for collection.

The FSA has warned that many imported bars lack English ingredient lists, allergen warnings, or valid UK contact details. Recalls are issued when a product poses a risk to consumers.

This recall follows recent concerns over a broader salmonella outbreak linked to imported eggs, which has identified 586 cases as of September 17, resulting in two deaths. Health officials have stated that UK-produced eggs do not pose a threat.
