Celebrity nutritionist Gabriela Peacock has shared her enthusiasm for green tea, highlighting its significant health benefits and offering advice on the optimal way to consume it. On a recent episode of her podcast, 'Don't Judge Me,' Peacock, who advises notable figures including Princess Beatrice, discussed the advantages of incorporating green tea into one's diet.
Peacock, the founder of the supplement brand GP Nutrition, praised matcha, a powdered form of green tea made from shade-grown leaves, as a "superfoody drink." She explained that matcha's concentrated nature delivers a substantial dose of antioxidants and polyphenols, which are plant compounds believed to protect cells from damage. "Obviously, green tea itself is good. But because [matcha] is properly concentrated... you get this huge amount of antioxidants and polyphenols," Peacock stated. She also noted the existence of "really strong research on green tea and cancer prevention."
While acknowledging that research on green tea's cancer-preventive effects is still developing, Peacock offered practical tips for those who find matcha's taste too bitter. She suggested starting with smaller amounts and gradually increasing intake. For those seeking to temper the bitterness, she recommended adding a small amount of agave syrup. "I love it. It provides energy as well, but it doesn't provide that kind of jittery energy," Peacock added, differentiating it from other caffeinated beverages.
The discussion occurred as Peacock examined the refrigerator of Thea Green MBE, founder of the beauty brand Nails.INC. Green mentioned that she had switched from drinking Diet Coke to matcha green tea, a choice that Peacock applauded.
