Lionel Richie was hospitalized on Wednesday after experiencing a dizzy spell during a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, prompting him to end his performance early. The 77-year-old music legend was taken to a hospital by ambulance, with sources telling TMZ it was a precautionary measure. Richie's current health status remains unknown, and his team has not yet publicly addressed the incident.
The event occurred during the start of his joint "Sing A Song All Night Long" tour with Earth, Wind & Fire at the Grand Casino Arena. According to reports, Richie signaled he was not feeling well throughout his performance, including multiple instances of stopping to sit down during the song "Dancing On The Ceiling." He reportedly told the crowd he was feeling "dizzy" and advised them, "When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your a** down."
After an unusual intermission following his performance of "Three Times A Lady," a band member informed the audience that Richie would not be able to continue the show due to illness. "Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well," saxophonist Dino Soldo announced, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune. "He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available."
Audience members began to leave the venue approximately 15 minutes after Richie left the stage. The concert was the second half of the evening, with Earth, Wind & Fire performing the first half. The tour is scheduled to continue with 26 cities through August 14, with the next stop in Chicago on Friday, June 26.
