Jenny McCarthy is standing by her decision to keep her breast implants, even as she battles a severe case of mold sickness. The 54-year-old former Playboy model discussed her choice on a recent episode of her podcast, "The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show," while speaking with her plastic surgeon, Dr. Terry Dubrow.
"You know I'm toxic-phobic, a lot of people make fun of me like, 'Oh, but you've got implants,'" McCarthy said. "Yeah, touché. You are correct. That is one thing that I maybe someday when I'm an old lady, will want to be a free bird, but in this time of having to be in these dresses and stuff like that. I mean, I went down dramatically, much smaller where I used to be," she added. "But I am not ready for zucchini titties. I'm just not there yet."
McCarthy has Motiva breast implants, which were approved by the FDA in 2024 and are designed as a softer alternative to silicone implants for more natural movement. Dubrow, who has performed multiple procedures on McCarthy since the early 2000s, including reductions and lifts, stated he does not believe her implants are connected to her mold poisoning diagnosis. He noted that her previous implants showed no signs of mold when removed.
McCarthy detailed a past experience from her late teens or early twenties when she received larger implants than requested from a doctor offering low-cost surgeries. She recounted waking up during the procedure, which was performed above the muscle without full anesthesia, and being told by the surgeon that he increased the size to prevent future procedures. She said thousands of women shared similar experiences.
The interview comes after McCarthy announced she is sleeping in a tent to detox from mold poisoning, which she was diagnosed with in December. She attributes her illness to exposure in an old dressing room with antiquated air conditioning. McCarthy reported a range of symptoms, including chalazions on her eyelids requiring surgery, a root canal infection leading to tooth loss, rashes, swelling, insomnia, food allergies, and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).
Despite investing tens of thousands of dollars in mold remediation for her home, McCarthy has become increasingly paranoid about sleeping in various locations and has opted for a tent in her backyard, complete with a rainproof cover. She is currently in her "seventh month of detox" and feels too paranoid to sleep anywhere else, describing the experience as traumatic.
McCarthy also revealed that the mold exposure led to her feeling self-conscious about her appearance, particularly regarding the chalazions, which made her feel "so ugly" and led her to constantly wear sunglasses. She shared her husband Donnie Wahlberg's potential discomfort and her own insecurity about their intimacy during that period.
In related news, McCarthy and Wahlberg recently listed their Chicago suburb home for $2.799 million, a significant increase from its purchase price of $1.1 million 11 years prior. McCarthy's views on medical matters have been controversial for years, notably her stance on vaccines and her belief that her son's autism was linked to the MMR vaccine.
