For 20 years, Mark Ibbitson experienced debilitating fatigue and high blood pressure, conditions that baffled doctors despite his otherwise healthy lifestyle.
Ibbitson was diagnosed with high blood pressure in his mid-30s. "I was fit and healthy but suffered crippling fatigue for 20 years – and doctors couldn't explain my high blood pressure," he stated.
Discovery and Treatment
Medical professionals eventually identified the underlying cause: a common snoring disorder, later diagnosed as sleep apnea. The discovery led to a treatment involving a small implant, which has since dramatically improved Ibbitson's quality of life.
The Genio device, used in his treatment, is designed to stimulate the nerves that control tongue movement during sleep. This stimulation helps keep the airway open, addressing the breathing interruptions characteristic of sleep apnea. An external unit worn under the chin at night powers an internal implant.
This intervention has reportedly resolved Ibbitson's long-standing fatigue and high blood pressure, marking a significant turning point in his health journey.
