Hailey Bieber has shared her experience with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a severe extension of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that can cause intense mood swings, anxiety, and irritability. The model and entrepreneur detailed her "lonely journey" with the condition in a recent interview with Women's Wear Daily.

Bieber, who welcomed her son Jack Blues in August 2024, stated that she struggled with PMDD after giving birth. "There's just not a lot of conversation or research around it," she told WWD.

According to the Mayo Clinic, PMDD can manifest with behavioral symptoms such as extreme sadness, hopelessness, anxiety, moodiness, irritability, and anger. Bieber emphasized the isolating nature of the disorder, particularly when awareness is low.

"Conversation, for me personally, makes me feel less alone," Bieber said. "When we can identify with each other and have conversations relating to each other and talking about the things we're dealing with and struggling with, I do think it makes it feel like less of a lonely journey."

She explained that her interest in women's health was heightened by her pregnancy and childbirth experience, noting the significant physical and emotional changes involved. Bieber first spoke publicly about her PMDD diagnosis in May on the "SHE MD Podcast," describing how it severely impacted her work, relationships, and social life.

"It felt extreme mentally. Like, 'Why does it feel like my whole entire life is going to end?'" she recalled, differentiating the experience from typical PMS. "It sucks. It is also dangerous, and it should be taken seriously."

Bieber is not the only public figure to discuss PMDD. Actress Lili Reinhart, singer Zara Larsson, and influencer Dixie D'Amelio have also shared their experiences. D'Amelio spoke about how the disorder affected her mental health and relationships on "The D'Amelio Show," while Reinhart discussed her "horrible PMDD" on the "Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky" podcast, noting it caused suicidal thoughts the week before her period.
