A doctor returning from a humanitarian mission in Congo has tested positive for Ebola, France's health ministry announced Wednesday. This marks the first case of the virus in France during the current outbreak.

The patient is currently being isolated, and authorities are undertaking contact tracing efforts, according to a statement from the ministry. The statement also indicated that the risk to the general European population is considered low.

The Ebola outbreak in Congo has already infected over 1,000 people and resulted in 267 deaths. The World Health Organization has previously stated that this outbreak has seen the largest number of confirmed cases within the first month of any recorded Ebola episode.
