Diet Plan Promises Significant Cholesterol Reduction in One Month

Tens of millions of American adults are affected by high cholesterol, a condition that can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and dementia if left untreated. A dietary approach called the Portfolio diet suggests it can help reduce cholesterol by up to one-third in just one month.

This diet plan focuses on incorporating specific foods known to lower cholesterol while advising against others that can exacerbate the condition. The core components of the Portfolio diet include plant sterols, viscous fibers, soy protein, and nuts. These elements are believed to work synergistically to reduce LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, often referred to as "bad" cholesterol.

Foods that are typically emphasized in the diet include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds. For example, a lunch could consist of a salad featuring chickpeas, leafy greens, avocado, and sunflower seeds, dressed with olive oil. Alternatively, a whole-grain wrap filled with hummus, roasted vegetables, and salad can be a convenient option. Tofu is also noted as a suitable inclusion within the Portfolio diet.

Conversely, the diet often advises limiting or avoiding foods high in saturated and trans fats, such as fatty meats, full-fat dairy products, and processed snacks. The goal is to create an eating pattern that actively combats high cholesterol, potentially reducing the need for medication like statins for some individuals.

The diet aims to transform lives by offering a natural method to manage a significant health concern. By making specific dietary changes, individuals may see substantial improvements in their cholesterol levels within a short timeframe.
