Citrus-Derived Supplement Offers Relief for Lipoedema Sufferers
A supplement containing compounds from citrus fruits has shown promise in alleviating the painful symptoms of lipoedema, a chronic condition affecting an estimated 10% of women.
A supplement derived from citrus fruits is providing relief for individuals suffering from lipoedema, a condition characterized by painful swelling in the legs that has no known cure. The supplement contains diosmin and hesperidin, two compounds commonly found in citrus fruits.
Vivien Lees-Hamilton, a 66-year-old from West Yorkshire, described her decade-long struggle with the condition, which left her legs feeling heavy and swollen. She stated that at times it felt like she was "walking around on tree trunks."
Lipoedema is estimated to affect up to one in ten women. Despite its prevalence, the condition is not well-understood and often goes undiagnosed. The symptoms typically include disproportionate fat deposits in the legs, often accompanied by pain, tenderness, and easy bruising. The swelling can also lead to mobility issues and emotional distress.
Lees-Hamilton found relief after discovering the supplement containing diosmin and hesperidin. She reported feeling significantly lighter and experiencing a reduction in pain and swelling. The relatively inexpensive nature of the supplement makes it an accessible option for many.
While this supplement has offered personal relief, further research is ongoing to fully understand the mechanisms by which diosmin and hesperidin impact lipoedema symptoms. However, for individuals like Lees-Hamilton, it represents a significant improvement in their quality of life.
