A British national working in the Democratic Republic of Congo has tested positive for Ebola, marking the first UK case of the virus in the current outbreak. The individual is being evacuated to the UK for treatment.
This development comes just a week after Africa's top health official warned that Britain was not safe from the continent's widespread Ebola cases. The outbreak, primarily affecting the DRC, has surpassed 10,000 cases and resulted in over 5,000 deaths.
A Foreign Office spokesperson stated that the risk to the UK public from Ebola remains low. The healthcare worker contracted the virus while working in the DRC.
