Will 'Ted Lasso' Return for Season 5?
Apple TV has yet to officially renew the Emmy-winning comedy, but cast and crew express optimism for a potential fifth season.
Speculation about the future of Apple TV+'s popular comedy "Ted Lasso" continues following the Season 4 finale. While Apple has not yet officially announced a renewal for a fifth season, cast and crew members have expressed hope and optimism for its return. The finale's synopsis was described as a "Season Finale" rather than a "Series Finale," fueling anticipation among fans.
"Ted Lasso" Season 4 concluded with Ted (Jason Sudeikis) passing the coaching responsibilities to Alice Chilton (Tanya Reynolds), Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and Higgins (Jeremy Swift) thwarting a plan to steal the club, Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) accepting a head coaching position at Chelsea and starting a family with Keeley Jones (Juno Temple), and a farewell to Mae Greene (Annette Badland).
The series is a flagship show for Apple TV, and its continued popularity could be a driving factor for a renewal. Jason Sudeikis, the show's star, initially envisioned the series with a three-season arc, but the storyline's continuation and fan reception may influence further seasons. Co-star Brendan Hunt shared his optimism, telling Deadline, "I certainly hope [Season 5] happens, and I’m optimistic, but yeah, haven’t heard anything official yet."
Despite the uncertainty, the cast has indicated a willingness to continue. Tanya Reynolds, who plays Alice Chilton, expressed interest in exploring more character arcs, including a potential flashback to their characters' Arsenal days. "We have no idea. There’s obviously so much potential, so many possibilities…" Reynolds commented when asked about future story possibilities. Annette Badland, who portrayed Mae Greene, also suggested a possible return for her character, perhaps in a metaphorical role akin to an angel in "It's a Wonderful Life."
There is currently no official release date for a potential "Ted Lasso" Season 5, as renewal has not been confirmed. The gap between previous seasons varied, with a three-year period between Season 3 and Season 4. If renewed, produced, and released without significant delays, new episodes might be expected in late 2027 or early 2028, depending on Sudeikis's involvement and the writing and production timelines.
