What Not To Wear Hosts Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine in Talks for Show Revival
The iconic fashion makeover duo may return to television more than 20 years after their BBC show was axed.
Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine are reportedly in discussions to revive their influential fashion makeover program, "What Not To Wear." The show, which originally aired on the BBC from 2001 to 2005, could make a comeback over two decades after its initial run.
Woodall, 62, revealed in a recent interview on Saga's Experience is Everything podcast that conversations about a potential revival are "sort of slightly still happening." She explained that the prospect of bringing the show back came as a surprise. "We were, interestingly, recently asked to do it again," Woodall stated. Initially, she and Constantine, 64, felt hesitant due to their current demanding careers – Constantine writing books and Woodall running her global beauty brand, Trinny London, as CEO and employing 300 people.
However, a meeting with producers who had been inspired by old episodes of "What Not To Wear" shifted their perspective. Woodall noted that the younger team was enthusiastic about the show. "We did things that were very extreme," Woodall recalled. "We would get a husband saying, 'Yes, do put a camera in my wife’s dressing room so we can see how she dresses'. We were very honest and that sort of honesty has gone because people are too scared."
The original "What Not To Wear" was known for its direct and often harsh critiques. Woodall and Constantine would famously strip contestants down to their underwear in front of a 360-degree mirror, offering blunt assessments of their bodies and self-image. The duo also frequently engaged in playful banter, sometimes critiquing each other's appearance, but their primary focus was on the guests seeking a style transformation.
At its peak, the show captivated an audience of approximately 7 million viewers who tuned in to witness the hosts' unvarnished advice. After its conclusion on the BBC, Woodall and Constantine transitioned to ITV with a subsequent show, "Trinny & Susannah... Undress."
Following the show's run, Woodall launched her successful makeup and skincare brand, Trinny London, in 2017. The brand has since grown into a significant global beauty enterprise, reportedly valued at £180 million. Constantine, meanwhile, has focused her creative energies on writing novels.
