Walter Koenig, best known for his portrayal of Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series, has died at the age of 90. The American actor and screenwriter passed away on Sunday in Los Angeles, Variety reported.
Koenig also appeared in seven Star Trek feature films. His character, Chekov, was introduced at the beginning of the show's second season in September 1967 as a navigation officer. The character's Russian origins and distinctive haircut were intended to appeal to younger viewers, drawing a parallel to Davy Jones of The Monkees.
