Victoria Beckham's Tableware Collection Draws Mixed Reviews for Style and Price

Victoria Beckham has expanded her brand into homeware with a new tableware collection in partnership with German e-commerce giant Westwing. The range, which includes porcelain dinnerware, stainless steel accessories, glassware, and decorative items, has been met with a lukewarm reception from interior designers who, while acknowledging its sophisticated aesthetic, question its groundbreaking nature and justify its premium pricing.

Interior designers Jordana Ashkenazi and Olivia Boardman, both from My Bespoke Room, commented on the collection, noting its understated elegance that aligns with Beckham's personal style. "It's simple, stylish, elegant, timeless and understated, which perfectly reflects Victoria's aesthetic as a whole," Ashkenazi stated. Boardman added that the collection feels "true to her personal style: sophisticated, understated and with just enough glamour to make it interesting."

Despite the aesthetic appeal, both designers suggested that the collection lacks a significant "wow-factor" and is "hardly groundbreaking." They pointed out that similar designs can be found at more affordable price points on the high street, from retailers like Zara and H&M.

Specific Pieces Under Scrutiny

The collection features a variety of items, including a £119 shell-shaped butter dish and knife set. Boardman described this particular piece as her "favourite" for its sculptural quality and vintage, jewelry-like finish, suggesting it could also serve as a decorative item. However, Ashkenazi expressed reservations about the use of stainless steel for butter dishes, finding the material less appealing for dining.

The Dover porcelain collection, with prices for individual dinner plates at £119 and charger plates at £64.99, was described as beautiful and versatile, with a chain motif inspired by Beckham's fashion line. However, the price was deemed high, with Ashkenazi noting that similar aesthetics are available for considerably less.

Glassware, particularly the Champagne coupes priced at £94 for a set of four, received praise for their mouth-blown quality, delicate stems, and sophisticated, timeless shapes. "These are probably one of my favourite pieces overall. They’re glamorous without being flashy, beautifully proportioned and have a lovely vintage feel," said Boardman.

Decorative items like glass vases (£97 for three) and tea light holders (£54.99 for two) were also highlighted. Ashkenazi appreciated the introduction of deep green glass, calling them "some of the more interesting decorative pieces" and suitable for gifting due to the designer name.

Value and Branding

Both designers agreed that the collection is primarily for consumers who prioritize the Victoria Beckham brand and are willing to pay a premium. "This is definitely a collection for those with cash to splash rather than anyone looking for value for money," Boardman commented.

Ashkenazi advised consumers to be selective. "My favourite pieces are definitely the champagne coupes, the sculptural glass vases and the tealight holders," she said, adding, "Do you need to spend this much to achieve the same look? Absolutely not. It’s undeniably Posh, but not every piece justifies a posh price tag."

Boardman recommended incorporating one or two standout pieces to "mix them with more affordable tableware," suggesting this approach creates more interesting interiors without requiring a "Beckham-sized budget."
