Victoria Beckham Receives Flowers From David After Katherine Ryan's BBC Apology

Victoria Beckham displayed a large bouquet of flowers from her husband, David Beckham, following an apology from comedian Katherine Ryan for a joke made on the BBC program "Have I Got News For You."

Beckham, 52, shared her appreciation for the gesture on Instagram on Friday, posting "I love you" to David.

BBC Complaint Upheld

The tribute comes after the BBC upheld complaints regarding a segment on "Have I Got News For You" where Ryan, 43, appeared to use an offensive term in reference to Beckham. Viewers complained that the remark was "gratuitously offensive."

The BBC's Executive Complaints Unit (ECU) investigated the episode, which aired in November 2025. The panel had been discussing a story about David Beckham allegedly using an offensive term in an email to his publicist regarding his knighthood in 2013. The panel discussed his alleged use of the term to describe the honors committee.

The ECU ruled that while one panelist's use of the word was justified in the context of discussing David Beckham's alleged usage, there was no editorial justification for Katherine Ryan's subsequent joke about Victoria Beckham.

"There was no such justification for a comment which presented Victoria Beckham as equivalent to a particularly offensive word," the ECU stated in its ruling.

Ryan's Response

Katherine Ryan addressed the incident in a social media video, attributing it to postpartum experiences. "At that time, though there is no defence, I was suffering from a condition called matrescence. I was in that building with a ten-day-old baby," she explained. Ryan stated that she had sent a message to Victoria Beckham after the show "to make it clear it was a stupid joke and I didn't mean any harm towards you at all."

Ryan also commented on the BBC's description of the term as a slur, noting, "If you watched it on the day, it was clearly a joke and the whole audience went [gasp] and then I said, 'Woah, I love her.'"
