Henry Cole, the 62-year-old presenter of ITV's "The Motorbike Show," has revealed he has been diagnosed with gut cancer and will postpone upcoming theater performances to undergo surgery. Cole shared the news in an Instagram video, stating that the cancer is localized and "easy to operate on." He expressed optimism for a full recovery, anticipating a return around February.
Cole, known for shows such as "The Motorbike Show" and "Shed and Buried," began his career as a news cameraman and director. He founded his own production company, which has produced numerous motorcycle-themed programs. He shares two sons with his wife, Janie.
In the video, Cole explained the necessity of rescheduling his live shows, which were planned for before Christmas. "I'm going to have to move the gigs this side of Christmas, the live shows to after Christmas when we'll rebook them," he stated. He reassured his followers that his filming schedule would not be affected. "Filming is not affected, but whatever happens, God sometimes does a small poo in your man bag doesn't he," he added, with a characteristic dose of humor. "But we're gonna be OK, and also whatever life throws at you, you've got to grow old disgracefully, I'll update you as I go. Lots of love!"
Among those offering support was Elizabeth Hurley, who appeared in Cole's 1995 film "Mad Dogs and Englishmen." Hurley commented on his post with "I love you ❤️❤️."
This is not the first health challenge Cole has publicly addressed. In a 2019 interview with The Telegraph, he spoke about his past five-year heroin addiction, which he overcame by 1988. He described a period of significant mental decline and financial hardship during his time as a news cameraman, stating he was spending approximately £250 daily on drugs and had his belongings repossessed after failed suicide attempts.
