Tom's 'Chicken Run' Bake Earns Acclaim on Great British Bake Off
Contestant Tom receives a coveted handshake from Paul Hollywood and Star Baker title for his showstopper, while Clara is eliminated.
The Great British Bake Off saw contestant Tom capture the attention of judges and viewers alike during Pasty Week with a "Chicken Run"-themed showstopper bake. Tom's creation earned him a handshake from judge Paul Hollywood and his third Star Baker award of the season.
Viewers took to social media platform X to express their delight and amusement at the thematic choice, noting the irony of a pie inspired by a film about chickens trying to avoid becoming pies. Comments included "a chicken run inspired pie is possibly the best thing i’ve ever seen on bake off" and "Not Tom making a chicken run chicken pie when the whole film is about chickens who don't want to be made Into pies."
Meanwhile, Clara was the latest contestant to be eliminated after her venison pies and Polish Karpatka dessert did not impress the judges in the signature challenge.
The episode also featured a challenging Technical challenge focused on flatbreads with a grape and blue cheese filling. The tight one-hour time limit proved difficult for the bakers, resulting in several raw creations. Paul Hollywood described it as "Probably the worst technical I think I have ever seen in 17 years." Judge Nigella Lawson humorously suggested that the contestants be made to eat their bakes as a punishment, a comment that resonated with viewers.
