Sir Tom Jones celebrated a victory in his final appearance on The Voice, as his act Cate McHugh was crowned the winner of the 2026 series. The triumph, however, was overshadowed by widespread fan disappointment and backlash over the music icon's abrupt dismissal from the judging panel after 13 years.

Fans expressed their dismay on social media platform X, with many declaring they would cease watching the show unless Jones was reinstated. "As you have stabbed Tom Jones in the back this will be my LAST time watching The Voice unless you FULLY reinstate him!" one viewer wrote.

Jones, 86, was one of the original coaches on the program, with only Will.i.am remaining from the initial lineup. In September, ITV confirmed that Jones would not return for the 15th series, opting for a refreshed panel that included new judges Cheryl and Aitch.

At the time of his axing, Jones stated that the decision was not his and alleged that ITV "fired" him due to "financial difficulty with insurance." He also expressed dissatisfaction with a proposed reduced role that would have limited his involvement. "So the only thing I know right now, is that there's never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who's still pretty good at his job," he commented.

ITV, in a statement, thanked Jones for his contributions, saying, "ITV would like to thank the irreplaceable Sir Tom Jones for all his years on The Voice UK, and the countless incredible and unforgettable moments he gave the show." The network also noted that they continued to discuss potential future involvement with Jones and his team.

However, fellow coach Will.i.am has reportedly expressed significant frustration backstage over the handling of Jones' departure. Sources suggest that the tension has created an awkward atmosphere on set, particularly for new coaches Cheryl and Aitch, who are seen by some as taking Jones' place.

Viewers also voiced their sentiments online: "The Voice will be finished when Sir Tom leaves," and "I refuse to watch the voice without sir tom Jones like he literally is the voice," were among the comments shared.
