Tiffany Embraces Theatrical Dream with Off-Broadway Debut

Singer Tiffany, known for her 1987 hit "I Think We're Alone Now," has made her Off-Broadway debut in "Spandex the Musical," marking a return to acting, a passion she pursued before her music career took off.

At 54, the artist, born Tiffany Darwish, is playing Linda Gustafson, a housewife competing in the fictional 1988 Crystal Light National Aerobics Championship in the new musical. "I’ve always believed the right role would find me, and the moment I read the script, I knew Linda was that character," Tiffany told People magazine. She sees parallels between her character's journey of discovering new passions and her own life experiences, including her culinary brand "Let's Food With Tiffany" and her return to acting.

Tiffany's music career launched at age 15 with her "Shopping Mall Tour '87." Her cover of "I Think We're Alone Now" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, followed by another chart-topper, "Could've Been." Her debut album also achieved platinum status and made her the youngest female artist to top the Billboard 200. However, subsequent albums saw diminishing commercial success, and by 1993, her fourth album was only released in Asian markets.

In the early 2000s, Tiffany moved from California to Nashville, seeking a quieter lifestyle. She told Fox News Digital in 2023 that she felt like a "country girl at heart" and that Nashville had always felt like home. She continued to tour and release music independently and also developed a culinary brand, releasing two cookbooks.

"Spandex: The Musical" is a limited engagement running through September 27. Following each performance, Tiffany sings "I Think We're Alone Now" during the curtain call. The show's producers have incorporated "Tiffany Easter eggs" for longtime fans. A portion of the musical's proceeds will benefit Children's Miracle Network, supporting children's hospitals in the United States and Canada.
