Terri Clark Chooses Authenticity Over Autotune for Live Ryman Album

Country music icon Terri Clark released a live album from her debut headlining performance at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, prioritizing an authentic, unedited recording over studio perfection. The album, titled Terri Clark: Live From The Ryman, captures the August 2024 show without the use of Auto-Tune or artificial intelligence, a conscious decision by the artist to reflect the performance as it happened.

Clark stated that she did not want to replace vocals or re-record any parts of the performance, aiming to preserve the passion of the moment. "In a world of AI and tracks and Auto-Tune and all of the things that people do to sound perfect, I let the recording lie the way it was and stay exactly as it went down that night," Clark told OutKick. "It's passion over perfection."

The Ryman performance marked a significant milestone for Clark, fulfilling a lifelong ambition. She described the experience as a "full-circle moment," recalling her early days performing for tips at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, a venue across the alley from the Ryman.

The 17-track album features renditions of Clark's hits, including "Better Things to Do," "Girls Lie Too," and "I Wanna Do It All." The live recording also includes guest appearances by fellow artists Ashley McBryde, who joined Clark for "Better Things to Do," and Trisha Yearwood, who performed "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me."

Clark emphasized that the raw energy and excitement of that particular night are precisely why she chose not to digitally alter the recording. She believes that attempting to "redo" any elements would not capture the authentic atmosphere of the Ryman performance. "I don't think I could duplicate the energy and excitement in my voice that night if I went in and redid anything," she said.
