The future of the Emmy-winning comedy "Ted Lasso" remains in limbo as Apple TV+ has yet to officially announce a renewal for a fifth season. Despite the show's popularity and a season finale that hinted at more stories to tell, fans are left waiting for confirmation.

The Season 4 finale concluded AFC Richmond's latest chapter, and while the episode was labeled a "Season Finale," it did not explicitly state it was a "Series Finale." This ambiguity has fueled speculation among viewers and the show's cast.

Jason Sudeikis, who plays the titular character, has previously indicated a vision for the series that encompassed multiple seasons. In comments to The Hollywood Reporter earlier in the season, he mentioned a plan for a three-season arc. However, speaking on the "Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso" podcast, Sudeikis expressed a desire to continue the show but noted that "it takes a village" and that "We haven’t started a writers’ room or anything like that," suggesting that concrete plans are not yet in motion.

Cast members have also voiced their enthusiasm for continuing the series. Ahead of the Season 4 finale, actors Abbie Hern and Tanya Reynolds, who play Coach Alice Chilton and Gemma, respectively, shared their interest in further exploring their characters' arcs. Reynolds expressed a hope for a flashback episode delving into their characters' time at Arsenal and even jokingly suggested a cameo for Mae, played by Annette Badland, in a manner reminiscent of "It's a Wonderful Life."

Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard, echoed the sentiment in a discussion with Deadline, stating, "I certainly hope [Season 5] happens, and I’m optimistic, but yeah, haven’t heard anything official yet. It would be nice though."

If "Ted Lasso" is renewed, the timeline for new episodes is unclear. The gaps between previous seasons have varied, with a roughly three-year interval between Season 3 and Season 4. Based on past patterns, a potential Season 5 could arrive in late 2027 or early 2028, but this is contingent on a swift renewal and production process.

"Ted Lasso" Season 4 is currently available for streaming on Apple TV+.
