A 13-second teaser clip was shown on CBS Mornings on Thursday, with the full video slated for release at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.
The teaser opens with Swift submerged underwater in a black dress. Subsequent scenes show Swift standing by a statue and looking out a window in a modern home. Johnson and Farrell also appear in the clip, with all three artists seen in sharp black attire and appearing to glare at one another. The teaser concludes with two women, presumably Swift and Johnson, standing before a grave in a snowy cemetery.
While the role of Farrell's character remains unclear, the dramatic music and visual cues suggest a narrative about betrayal or mistreatment, themes Swift has explored in previous songs.
The release of "Patient Zero" is part of the expanded edition of Swift's most recent album, "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore," which features four new tracks.
